A. Company Profile
Cell Genesys (NASDAQ: CEGE) focuses on the development and commercialization of novel biological therapies for patients with cancer. The company is conducting clinical trials in multiple types of cancer utilizing its product platform technologies-GVAX cancer vaccines and oncolytic virus therapies.
B. Products
| Product | Indication | Clinical Status |
|---|---|---|
| CG070 | Bladder cancer | Phase I |
| GVAX | Leukemia, pancreatic cancer, and prostate cancer | Phase II-III |
1. CG0070
CG0070 is an oncolytic virus therapy with specificity for multiple cancers. CG0070 is an armed oncolytic virus therapy, so-named because it has been engineered to secrete GM-CSF, an immune stimulating hormone, which also serves as the adjuvant in cancer immunotherapy platform. As a result, CG0070 can potentially destroy cancer cells by two different mechanisms: direct cell killing by the virus and immune-mediated cell killing stimulated by GM-CSF.
2. GVAX
GVAX is a whole cell vaccine that is designed to stimulate an immune response against patient tumor. The vaccine are comprised of tumor cells that have been irradiated and genetically modified to secrete GMCSF (Granulocyte Macrophage Clony Stimulation Factor) an immune stimulating hormone which plays a key role in stimulating the body's immune response to vaccines. The configurations currently being evaluated are as follows: vaccines that are made with tumor cells from cancer cells lines and vaccines that are made either entirely from the patient's own tumor cells, or by mixing the patient's tumor cells with a non patient-specific GVAX product.
